The Supply Chain Threat

During a February speech, Patrick Shanahan, the deputy secretary of defense, emphasized the importance of cybersecurity of the defense industrial base, saying the Pentagon would take a more rigid and uncompromising position on the issue.

Since then, leaders from the Department of Homeland Security and the Defense Department have repeatedly discussed the importance of cyber hygiene for industry, not just for prime contractors, but for prime contractors to be cognizant of the security practices of their subcontractors and third tier contractors. Some leaders have said the Department will move from “carrots” to “sticks.” In September, Shanahan doubled down on this topic and said the Pentagon will start using cybersecurity as a key factor in awarding a company a contract.

Through articles, essays and information graphics, this   E-Book will explore what steps the DoD is taking, what industry can do to better protect the supply chain, what the threat environment looks like and what’s at risk.
